I don’t quite get it, I think it’s a bit broader than just detecting peeping via the webcam.
If they also disable notifications, which implicitly indicates that someone is also peeking on your desktop.

Reasonably plausible, of course, if people have access to your webcam, they probably also have access to view your screen.

I don’t quite see the point of automatically lowering screen brightness (it can also happen due to other factors), that’s an indication of nothing. It is not the case that if your screen brightness is lower, it is also the case for the lurking , but you immediately stop what you are doing if you barely see anything, so it can probably help with that
