In the future, Finland will face difficulties on its border with Russia. Finnish President Sauli Niiniste stated this during a meeting with Latvian President Edgar Rinkevich, writes the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, citing excerpts “Kommersant».

“We both noticed that our border with Russia is surprisingly peaceful. Perhaps there is a reason why they transferred their troops to Ukraine… Undoubtedly, difficulties await us in the future, this is obvious,” the Finnish leader added, noting that a “deceptive calm” has reigned on the eastern border of Finland for a year and a half.

Niinist also called the Russian reaction to Finland’s accession to NATO hostile. The Finnish leader is confident that after joining the alliance, the country’s security will be “maximized,” but it is possible that Russia will restore its offensive potential on the borders of the Baltic countries and Finland in three to five years.

Let us remind you that Finland and Sweden have submitted applications to join NATO in May 2022. Finland was admitted to NATO in April.
