Fuss in Belgium: police run over half-naked woman ‘La Boum’ | Abroad

A new video about the fake festival that got out of hand is circulating on social media. It shows how the police hit a half-naked woman on horseback. The woman, who did not see the horses coming, fell heavily and remained lying down. Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden has the images examined.

“That is excessive”, responds Sofie De Kimpe, professor of criminology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, after seeing the images. “Usually horses move to the side, but a police horse is trained to keep walking. Provided the rider leads the horse like this, it will knock people over. In this situation that seems very excessive to me. He could have sent the horse past this person. This is completely unnecessary. ”

Battle

In the Bois de la Cambre, an estimated 2,000 young people had gathered on Thursday to party, often without masks, so the police came to the scene to enforce the measures. That led to a very grim evening where officers were pelted with glass bottles and other projectiles.

Eight revelers were also injured. Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) said on Thursday that the behavior of the young people is unacceptable, but she too has seen the images of the police on horseback. “It is too early to pass judgment,” she adds VRT News. “I’m going to investigate, but of course the police action must always be proportional and we will look at that further.”
