The number of corona patients admitted to hospital continues to increase, as expected. The number of infections is also increasing. Furthermore, the number of deaths is also going up – albeit slightly.

On Wednesday, health institute Sciensano reported an average of 53.1 hospital admissions per day, in the period between 15 and 21 September. That is 20.6 more than in the previous seven-day period. There are currently 505 people with corona in Belgian hospitals, 94 of whom are in intensive care, an increase of 3 and 8 percent respectively.
The number of infections also continues to rise. Between 13 and 19 September, an average of 1,374 infections were reported in our country every day, or 60 percent more than in the previous week. Between 6 and 19 September – Sciensano recently calculates the infection rate per 14 days, no longer per 7 days – the infection rate was 136 per 100,000 inhabitants, or an increase of 132 percent. In total, more than 105,000 infections have been counted in our country.
The average number of deaths rose slightly in the same period, after a long period of stagnant death rates. Sciensano reports an average of 3.3 deaths in Wednesday’s preliminary figures, an increase of 0.4 compared to the previous week. There are now 9,955 deaths from the corona virus in our country.
