Fürth – SpVgg Greuther Fürth does not want to give up their belief in relegation despite their disastrous first half of the season in the Bundesliga.

“I don’t want to talk about the second division, it’s too far away for me,” assured coach Stefan Leitl after the goalless draw against FC Augsburg. With only five points of their own, the Franconians are already twelve points behind relegation rank 16. No club has yet held the class with such a record.

They want to work hard from the start of training on December 27th to create a better balance sheet in the second half of the season, announced Leitl before the short winter break. «Of course we play to stay up. Nobody has been relegated in the first half of the season, »said full-back Marco Meyerhöfer. They want to try to close the gap to the relegation place.

Last season, FSV Mainz 05 only had seven points at the end of the first half of the season, but managed to stay in the class with a furious second half. “You have to take that as a model that nothing is impossible,” said Meyerhöfer.

Augsburg have 18 points after the first round final. Coach Markus Weinzierl hopes that the personnel situation will improve in the second half of the season. “I assume that Alfred Finnbogason and Florian Niederlechner will be available again in January,” said the FC Augsburg coach.
