At all schools in the Fürstenfeldbruck district, lessons are canceled on Monday due to the storm storm Sabine. A spokesman for the department for schools, sports and culture of the district office announced on Sunday evening. The schools will ensure that the pupils are looked after if necessary. The German Weather Service warns of hurricane gusts of up to 120 kilometers per hour. The highest wind speeds are expected in the district on Monday morning between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. The weather service recommends not to be outdoors during this time. Deutsche Bahn has already reacted to the storm and stopped all long-distance traffic.

First announcement: forest owners in concern: anxious waiting for the hurricane

– How hard Sabine will hit the region is not yet clear. For meteorologists, however, one thing is certain: it is coming. And Sabine doesn’t just make a short visit – until It should remain stormy in the middle of next week,

The fire departments in the district are armed. In order to process the emergency calls received every minute in the event of major storms, the so-called district operations center can be quickly staffed, explains district fire councilor Hubert Stefan. It is located in the Fürstenfeldbruck fire station and is intended to relieve the Integrated Control Center (ILS). In the district operations center, non-time-critical operations are processed – for example, when a tree is in the garden but there is no immediate danger.

Everything is lashed down

The construction sites in the district are still being cleaned up before the storm. Everything that is not riveted and nail-proof is lashed down or cleared away. “Storm is part of the business,” says Thomas Vilgertshofer from the Allinger construction company of the same name. The cranes on the construction sites would cope with even the strongest gusts.

Forest owners worried

Paul Högenauer, Managing Director of the Fürstenfeldbruck Forest Owners Association, is less relaxed about the storm. “I’m worried,” says the forest expert. There is a good reason for that. “A lot of forests are torn open,” says Högenauer. Many trees had to be felled because of the bark beetle. The wind has new areas of attack. “The first trees fall at 100 kilometers per hour.”

The Bruck school authorities also know about this danger. Whether the lesson will be canceled on Monday should not be decided until the morning, says head of office Bettina Betz. Such storms always present a dilemma: if the school stays up, parents complain that it seems too dangerous. If classes are canceled, there are angry calls from mums and dads who have to take care of their child.

Weighing must also be done for bus traffic. at Storm Niklas 2015 all traffic was stopped. The decision whether the buses have to go to the depot is made by the bus company itself, says the public transport representative at the district office, Hermann Seifert. The companies are ultimately responsible for the safety of passengers.
