Franz Neuhierl towers above all other city councilors – in three ways: The Free Voter politician is the tallest at 1.98 meters, he has the most life experience (he celebrated his 79th birthday on Saturday). And in the past 31 years he has been in demand on the committee again and again because of his profound legal knowledge. Last Tuesday’s meeting was the last one on an “official mission” for the lawyer. He is giving up his mandate for health reasons and wants to concentrate on the work in his office. The oldest goes, the youngest comes: Quirin Droth, 20, son of chairman Markus Droth, is moving up into the four-member parliamentary group of Free Voters.
Franz Neuhierl has earned great respect over the years. His opinion was asked. When he spoke, it had the weight, especially since he always gave his opinion well – even if he deviated from the faction line. “Franz is a moral authority,” says Markus Droth, referring to the mediating role that Neuhierl often took on behind the scenes with serenity and humor. The long-time chairman of the FW local association was third mayor under former Mayor Sepp Kellerer from 2002 to 2008. Born in Traunstein, who has lived in Fürstenfeldbruck since 1972 and describes himself as a “field, forest and meadow attorney”, was at the head of the BRK district association for 28 years until 2013. The father of two is also a founding member of the theater group Brucker Brettl.
Behind Klaus Wollenberg (FDP), Neuhierl was together with Markus Droth the longest-serving city councilor in Fürstenfeldbruck. Neuhierl has “his heart in the right place,” says Droth. On the sidelines of the city council meeting, Mayor Erich Raff (CSU) also praised Neuhierl’s voluntary work and said goodbye to the applause of the city council.
Quirin Droth is expected to be sworn in at the city council meeting on May 18th. This means that there will be a father-son team in the city council in the future. The Droth family (also Quirin’s mother Susanne) had switched from the CSU to the free voters before the local elections because all Droths should only be considered far behind on the CSU electoral list. After graduating from high school, Quirin Droth is currently completing an apprenticeship as a system mechatronics technician. He gained political experience in the city youth council, which he now has to leave according to the statutes.
