Fur ban? That doesn’t work for New York

A new cheap bill wants to get away from the fur. Minorities such as African-Americans and Hasidic Jews oppose it.

The trapper is as much a part of American myth as New York – and both have a long history together.

Nothing is more wonderful to touch than an animal. No faux fur, no coconut fiber can replace the shine of the arctic fox or mink, which make even the dullest human hair shine through its sheer presence as a coat, collar or hat. This is also the case with Mendel, the fur trader on the Upper East Side, Madison Avenue. When entering, the doorbell rings muffled, the security guard grants entry with a knowing look. Only true fur lovers come to Mendel.
