President’s Moment Joko Widodo (Jokowi) welcoming the delegation from the World Bank leadership at the Merdeka Palace attracted attention. The way to shake hands is the cause.
The moment occurred when a number of World Bank leaders met Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace, Wednesday (16/2/2022). Those who came to the Palace included Axel Van Trotsenburg as Managing Director of Operations, Manuela V Ferro as Vice President of East Asia and Pacific Region, and Satu Kahkonen as Country Director of Indonesia.
Seen by detikcom from the video of the Presidential Secretariat, Jokowi who appeared to be wearing batik, initially stood up to welcome the delegation from the World Bank leadership. Jokowi then met Axel Van Trotsenburg.
It is at this point that the awkward moment occurs. Jokowi and Axel Van Trotsenburg both exchanged hand gestures when they were about to shake hands.
In the end, they just put their hands on their chests. Jokowi and Axel Van Trotsenburg seemed to laugh after the moment happened.
“Good to see you,” said Jokowi to which Axel Van Trotsenburg replied.
After that, Jokowi greeted two other World Bank officials. Only then did they enter the room to start a conversation.
During the meeting, President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. The meeting discussed several important issues such as the G20 Indonesia Presidency, energy transition, the environment, handling the COVID-19 pandemic, to regional issues.
“The area discussed earlier was a little about Covid, then earlier it was about the energy transition mechanism, then later we also talked about the mangrove issue, earlier talking about the capital city, the discussion was very broad, and also talked about reaching Myanmar as well,” said the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs. and Investments by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in a written statement from the Press, Media and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said the World Bank provided its support for the G20 agenda in Indonesia. According to Sri, Indonesia’s leadership at the G20, which is supported by the international community, plays an important role in efforts to recover the global economy after the pandemic.
“Many countries are still lagging behind and that certainly needs attention so that the Indonesian theme ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’ can really take place where Indonesian leadership and through support from the G20, as well as international institutions can pay attention to countries. who still have not recovered. Due to the lack of access to vaccines, because also from the side of the domestic economic challenges from low-income countries, it becomes an extraordinary challenge. So this is one of the discussions for the G20, the World Bank will support and Of course, Indonesia’s leadership is important,” said Sri.
