Funny goodbye ceremony ever! in New York for people to get rid of the worst of the year

Hundreds of New Yorkers signed up for the “Goodbye!” at the worst of 2022 in Times Square. From bad coffee to the Ukrainian war, they wrote some cards all they would like to get rid of, they shredded them and participated in a mini obstacle course.

A fun collective catharsis full of good vibes for the new year.

The pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the anger…

“I work at a hospital, it’s been a very, very long three years and we all want this to be over. We want people to wear a mask, everyone to get vaccinated and get on with our lives,” says a volunteer at a medical center center.

“In 2022 there was so much sickness, so much misinformation, so much anger, hatred between one and the other, I don’t like it,” says a retiree.

“We’re getting rid of ‘Ukraine vs. Russian War’, my personal suggestion is to skip a semester, and also the drastic increase in celebrity deaths,” adds one student.

A Hispanic American tradition

This December 28th event started in 2007, promoted by the Times Square Alliance. It is inspired by a tradition in some Latin American countries, for example Colombia, to put objects or notes with bad memories of the year in a doll and set it on fire.
