Fungi and parasite eggs were found in samples of Fugini brand tomato sauce in an expert examination by the General Institute of Expertise (IGP) completed this Tuesday (16). The institute collected samples of the product after reports from consumers in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre.
Fugini products came to be prohibited due to lack of hygiene by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), but the decision was suspended in April. The company admitted to using expired ingredients in mayonnaise production and, for this reason, would recall (recall) items unfit for consumption.
The company informed g1 that “it did not have access to any report related to the reported procedure”. The Civil Police inquiry into the case should be completed by the end of the month.
“The result proves that these sauces were effectively contaminated by fungi and parasite eggs, and, in this sense, the response of the IGP (…) is that contaminated foods are not suitable [para o consumo humano]because they can be associated with bacteria and produce toxins that are harmful to health”, explains delegate Jeiselaure de Souza.
In total, three samples, from different markets, batches and presentations, were analyzed. “And they all have the same analysis for fungi and parasite eggs”, concludes the delegate.
