This Sunday, hundreds of people in Champigny-sur-Marne, west of Paris, took part in a funeral march for 17-year-old Matteo. The student was killed by a stab in the heart area near his home on Tuesday. The suspect is a 16-year-old who was arrested but is apparently silent about the allegations.
The mayor of Champigny-sur-Marne was also at the funeral march. He said: “It’s not about gangs or fights, it’s about children who played together a few hours before the tragedy.”
Matteo lived in the same apartment building since he was two years old. The suspect is a neighbor child.
“Justice for Matteo” was on a poster – combined with the outcry that something like this should never be done to children again.
After a minute’s silence, Matteo’s mother described how she ran to her son, who was seriously injured by a 11 centimeter long blade. During the hour and a half of heart massage, a piece of her heart was also torn out, said her mother, Cindy Hinault.
Psychological support was offered in the neighborhood.
The family of Marjorie, who was stabbed to death in another Parisian suburb the week before, also attended the commemoration. In both acts of violence among young people, dispute over posts in social media on the Internet was the background. The 17-year-old wanted to confront a teenager who had written about her little sister on Snapchat.
“Life is a struggle, but not a war”
Marjorie’s older sister gave a short speech at the memorial service for Matteo. She said: “Take care of each other!” And further: “Life is a struggle, but it is not a war against others. We have to teach the children that. We have to act at all levels, in families and in schools.”
On Saturday, Marjorie’s family, friends, acquaintances and neighbors took part in a memorial march for the high school graduate. Many wore yellow T-shirts because YELLOW was Marjorie’s favorite color.
