Randy Lankford, 50, has been charged with not completing funeral services for which he was paid, US media report.
The judge is aiming for a prison sentence of twelve years, eight of which will be house arrest. The man of the judge must also reimburse almost 43,000 euros to 53 families. Lankford will officially hear his sentence on June 23.
Police in the city of Jeffersonville tracked down the man in July last year after reports of a strong odor emanating from the funeral home. Dozens of uncooled bodies were found in the building.
Human remains
Some had been in the building for months. At least one body had been there since March of that year.
The cremated remains of another seventeen people were found. According to the court documents, some families took months to learn from the police that they had not received their relative’s real ashes or that their loved one was never cremated.
