SOE Minister Erick Thohir has been outspoken about the injection of State Equity Participation (PMN) of Rp 4.1 trillion for PT KAI (Persero). The PMN for PT KAI was protested by several factions of Commission VI.
The PKS faction unanimously disagreed and asked the PMN for PT KAI to be postponed. Meanwhile the Gerindra Faction agreed with the note. The protest itself was given because the PMN for PT KAI will be used to increase capital for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project.
Erick also explained that KAI needed additional PMN because of the funding for the fast train project. He said economic conditions move dynamically, especially in determining construction materials.

Erick assessed that the funds previously approved for the high-speed train project were not in accordance with the current material conditions. According to him, the current raw materials for infrastructure development have increased 40-100%.
“The price of infrastructure development that has been carried out previously is the same as today, because the price of iron and other things can increase by more than 40-100%,” Erick told reporters at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Monday (4/7/2022). .
“Now trying to make a house check is 40% more expensive. This is what we can’t compare apple to apple because of the dynamics of the global economy and supply changes,” he said.
Even so, Erick assessed that infrastructure projects are the most lucrative investments and are most in demand by the whole world. So there is no harm in the high-speed train project being continued. Moreover, during the pandemic both individuals and companies have large reserves there.
“If we look now at the world economy in 2008 people lacked money. But during COVID-19, individuals, companies had excess money. Because there was a restructuring. This is not only in Indonesia but throughout the world. People saving companies do not expand,” said Erick .
He said that the high-speed train project could attract new investors and could be developed further.
“Well, this money is certainly looking for investment potential with safe state conditions and has the concept of sustainability and of course the investment yields good returns,” said Erick.
