Funding for Free COVID Testing to be Reduced – NBC 7 South Florida

In a memo to commissioners, the mayor of Miami Dade warns that FEMA will reduce funding for COVID-19-related services, which cover free COVID-19 testing, in July.

“Congress voted not to go ahead with the payment of these services. So we have to continue to see what options we have,” Cava said.

The memorandum adds that at the county’s testing sites, operated by the private company Nomi Health, due to changes in FEMA’s reimbursement policy, health insurance information will be required and for those who do not have it, the service will be available. at a certain cost.

But the president of the Miami Dade Commission, José Pepe Díaz, says:

“QFree trials is one thing that I think we’re already going through. Many people already purchase their own Kits. They buy them, and they have their own tests. Those funds are already running out. But the funds that I believe should continue to be appropriately received and given are for the issue of injections, to prevent a person from dying.”

It refers to two types of monoclonal antibodies still supplied by private health institutions charged to medical insurance.

“We have a very high level of infection right now, and while there are other places for people who don’t have insurance, it’s very important that they have access to testing,” says Cava.
