More and more Viennese companies are relying on electric cargo bikes. The city has now increased the funding pot for this by 200,000 euros. There is currently no more support from the city for private individuals, but that should change again.

More than 670 Viennese have applied for funding for a new cargo bike. “606 cargo bikes and e-cargo bikes have already been funded, 70 applications are currently being examined,” says the mobility agency. The funding pot of a total of 600,000 euros has thus been exhausted. There has been no funding for about a month.
According to the city, that should change again. “An extension / increase is planned,” says the office of City Councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ) opposite Radio Vienna. When it comes and how high it will be, it has not yet been determined.
Support for companies increased by 200,000 euros
On the other hand, one thing is certain: the subsidy for companies was increased by 200,000 euros in June. For smaller e-cargo bikes for businesses there are up to 2,000 euros from the city, for larger models with more payload it is a maximum of 4,000 euros.
214 companies have already made use of the funding. A further 148 companies have already registered and are preparing to buy. “This means that subsidies have currently been reserved or already paid out for a total of 362 companies,” says Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ), City Councilor for Climate Change.
Overall, the funding campaign for companies comes to a total of one million. The money comes from the green electricity fund of the state of Vienna. The campaign ends when the funding pot is exhausted, but no later than December 31, 2021. “Currently around 20 percent of the funding is still available,” it says.
