Fundación Caja Rural gives Cáritas 90,000 euros in support of Ukraine – Diocesana de Zamora

The Fundación Caja Rural gives 90,000 to Cáritas Diocesana de Zamora for the emergency in Ukraine. This morning, at a press conference, Cipriano García, general director of Caja Rural and Antonio J. Martín, delegate-director of Cáritas Diocesana de Zamora and president of Cáritas Autonómica de Castilla y León, explained what the campaign consisted of and where The money that has been collected goes to it.

Cipriano García began his speech by thanking all the companies and individuals for their collaboration, “for us it is a pleasure to be able to undertake this initiative and help people who are in great need and going through very difficult times”. He has also highlighted that “logically we have had the collaboration of Cáritas and D. Antonio, its director, whom I thank, not only for this action, but in general for the activity carried out by Cáritas in all orders of life in Zamora”, pointing to the “magnificent work” that Cáritas carries out.

To give impetus to this initiative, Caja Rural contributed the first 40,000 euros; the remaining 50,000 euros come from the solidarity of the Zamoranos.

The general director of Caja Rural in Zamora has wanted to value the work of Cáritas, “we have had the collaboration of Cáritas, because they are the ones who feel first-hand the vicissitudes that the families that arrive have and in some way they are the guardians and administrators of an extreme situation, and that the rest of us can only contribute money in this case. Of course, those who have the difficult task are the ones who live with them, the ones who have to see their daily suffering. It is a very important humanitarian problem and I want to thank you for your work at this time, I am sure that they will have an absolutely even distribution as they always do and that they will get the most out of these €90,000”.

For his part, Antonio J. Martín, delegate-director of Cáritas Diocesana de Zamora, highlighted the involvement of Caja Rural whenever difficult situations arise, inside and outside our borders. “From the first moment, Cipriano contacted us to say, we organized a campaign from Caja Rural, to help people who are suffering the horrors of war and we have thought of doing it through Caritas. It has been a very nice initiative, we have achieved €90,000, which is important, but we have also managed to make the population aware of what is happening in Ukraine, and the people who are coming from there”.

Finally, the delegate-director of Cáritas has exposed the work that is being carried out on the ground. On the one hand, “Caritas, through two Caritas that exist in Ukraine, one of the Latin rite and the other of the Orthodox rite, both of which are Christian, continue to serve a million and a half people, putting their lives at stake, there have been people of Caritas who died in the bombings. Show the help in the border countries, Poland, Romania, Moldova… They are attending from the beginning and in contact with the rest of European Caritas, and with Spanish Caritas of course, especially Polish Caritas with a very good ability to help strong, with many workers and volunteers”.

On the other hand, there is the issue of refugees who arrive at Cáritas, “most of the time they have arrived through private channels, private initiatives, family members who were already here, and need help, they come to us for the basics, help from hygiene, food, clothing, rental housing. We are serving around 63 people in Zamora, women with children, the men have had to stay in the army. Some of them have managed to start working and now they find themselves with the problem of the children, there is no school, and they have asked us that the children can participate in our camps in Sanabria, (about 22)”.
