Valencia.- The Foundation for the Fight Against Breast Cancer (Funcamama) is an institution that for two decades has worked to protect the health of Venezuelans and within the framework of its twentieth anniversary, promoted vaccination against HPV, reported its president, Luisa Rodriguez Tariba.

The institution organized on July 9 the first day of vaccination of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) with the aim of reducing the risk of developing uterine, vaginal, mouth and pharynx cancer.

“The vaccine has been on the market since 2010 and, since 2011, in Funcamama we have been requesting the Ministry of People’s Power for Health (Mpps) to incorporate it into the mandatory vaccination schedule. It is a vaccine that is placed free of charge in the rest of the Latin American region,” Rodríguez stressed in an interview with the whistle on July 16, by telephone.

However, Rodríguez noted that, to date, the Ministry of Health has not purchased the vaccine and those who wish to be immunized must purchase it privately. “At Funcamama we manage the lowest price on the market,” he assured.

1,000 people is the goal

During this first day, Funcamama vaccinated 140 people and a little more than 20% were under 15 years of age. The activity not only served to immunize the attendees, but also to make them aware of the importance of being immunized.

In the coming days, the sessions will continue, both in Valencia and Caracas, to meet the foundation’s goal of immunizing 1,000 people against HPV before the end of 2022.

Human Papillomavirus Vaccine

The president of Funcamama explained that a person with HPV can be vaccinated, since not all people have the strains that cause cervical cancer.

In this regard, he explained that the vaccine protects against the four most common strains and, when applied, the effect and symptoms of the HPV carrier will be reduced.

Rodríguez Táriba specified that men and women, starting at 9 years of age, can be vaccinated, and recalled that, in Colombia, the vaccination schedule starts at 5 years of age.

Process

In the Funcamama vaccination days, first the individual’s blood pressure is taken and then the vaccine is applied. You are then asked to undergo a check-up 15 minutes after being injected.

Children under 15 only need two doses, while those over this age require three doses over time. These doses are recommended to be applied within a period of no more than six months in adults and, in the case of children, the time should not exceed 4 months, as indicated by Luisa Rodríguez.

The president of Funcamama reported that the vaccine has no expiration date. According to the studies carried out to date, when a person completes their vaccination schedule, they do not need to be vaccinated again in time.

Lastly, he invited citizens to invest in their health, take care of their bodies and prevent risk factors.

Those interested in contacting the foundation for the fight against breast cancer and finding out about the next vaccination days, can do so through @funcamama or by phone number: 0424-4328748.

This organization has two offices in the city of Valencia. One in the El Viñedo urbanization, with opening hours from Monday to Saturday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, and another in the Metropolis Shopping Center, in the San Diego municipality. The latter is open to the public from Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
