Electric car price and electric motors will be cheaper. The government plans to provide incentives so that the price of electric cars and electric motorcycles is more accessible to the public. There will be subsidies for electric and hybrid cars up to IDR 80 million!
It’s no secret, the price of electric cars in Indonesia is still quite high. Even when compared with petrol cars, the price is too high. With a price difference of up to hundreds of millions between petrol and electric cars, people are reluctant to switch. Also, the infrastructure is not entirely adequate.
On the other hand, the government wants to speed up the transition to electric vehicles. For this reason, the government will immediately give incentives to reduce the price of electric cars.
“We will calculate the amount of this subsidy, for the purchase of electric cars an incentive of around IDR 80 million will be given, for the purchase of a hybrid electric car an incentive of around IDR 40 million will be given, and also for the new electric motorcycles an incentive of around IDR 8 million,” explained Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita on Youtube broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.
Furthermore, conversion to electric vehicles will also receive an incentive of approximately IDR 5 million. It should be noted that the incentives for electric cars and electric motorcycles do not apply to all models. But if the brand has a factory in Indonesia. So far, for electric cars made in Indonesia, there are Wuling Air ev and Hyundai Ioniq. Meanwhile, for hybrid cars, there is the Kijang Innova Zenix hybrid, the Suzuki Ertiga hybrid, and the Wuling Almaz hybrid. Giving this incentive is not without reason. It is hoped that this will speed up the transition to electric vehicles.
“For example countries in Europe, because they are more advanced in the use of electric cars and motorcycles because the government provides incentives and if we also see China providing incentives and countries that are actually competitors we also see them providing incentives,” said Agus.
On the other hand, it is also hoped that the provision of incentives will encourage manufacturers to produce their own electric cars and motorcycles domestically. In this way, more and more electric cars and motorcycles will be labeled as “Made in Indonesia”.
“By providing incentives for the purchase of electric cars and motorcycles, we will, in quotes, force electric car and motorcycle manufacturers to accelerate the realization of their investment in electric cars or motorcycles in Indonesia,” concluded Agus.
