Electric vehicles, both motorcycles and cars, will be cheaper. This is because the government is currently discussing the amount of incentives for electric vehicles.
Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industries Association (Periklindo) chairman Moeldoko leaked that the government had looked into neighboring countries’ electric vehicle subsidy programs so that electric vehicles could be cheaper.
“Currently the government has prepared several incentives, we will also see what is happening in Thailand and Vietnam what incentives are provided by the government there,” Moeldoko said at the EV conversion socialization event at HI Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (20 /11/2022) quoted by detikFinance.
Moeldoko went on to say that EV subsidies would be given to motorcycles, cars or EV conversions.
“We plan to provide subsidies to those who want to convert or buy a new motorcycle. How much do you want to calculate,” Moeldoko said.
He said that there are currently two things that the government is currently investigating, namely the amount of the subsidy and the mechanism for giving it. You may see the amount from your vehicle’s electrical horsepower or watts.
Furthermore, the mechanism for granting subsidies is also under discussion. For conversions, for example, the government is considering whether subsidies will be provided through the government, through conversion workshops or directly to owners.
“How is the mechanism, for example the conversion. There is a repair shop, some have motorcycles and the government. How you provide subsidies, this is the mechanism that is regulated,” Moeldoko said.
Transport Ministry Transport Director General Hendro Sugiatno also signaled that the government will provide incentives for electrified vehicles in the near future.
“Yes, just pray that it is released in early 2023. We are all governments and institutions pushing for electricity-related automotive developments from 2020 to 2030. Including infrastructure, so everyone is thinking in that direction,” he said from the YouTube broadcast of the Directorate General of Land Transport.
Currently the process is still being elaborated by related agencies, in particular the Ministry of Finance. For technical matters, the amount of the incentive will be regulated by the Ministry of Finance, including the object that will receive the incentive, whether the vehicle is new or undergoes transformation.
“Things are being formulated, hopefully it won’t be long before they come out (incentive rules for electric vehicles). So there will be incentives from the government, both for new vehicles and for convertible vehicles,” he said Hendro.
