JAKARTA, REQnews – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the total lunar eclipse that will occur on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 can be seen by people in Papua Province safely with the naked eye.

The Papuan people can see this phenomenon without having to wear special glasses.

According to the Head of the Center for Technical Seismology, Potential Geophysics and Time Signs of BMKG Rahmat Triyono in a press release received on Sunday, May 23, 2021, this total lunar eclipse can be witnessed if the weather conditions are cloudy and clear from the beginning of the process, namely 17.46 WIT until ending at 22.51. WIT.

“At its peak, in most parts of Indonesia the position of the moon is close to the horizon in the eastern part, enabling observers to be able to capture this eclipse against the foreground of historical or iconic buildings,” said Rahmat Triyono.

Rahmat further explained, the phase (P1) or the beginning of the lunar eclipse starts at 17.46.12 WIT which crosses the central part of Papua, so that observers in Papua Province can witness the entire process of this total lunar eclipse.

Meanwhile, the peak phase of the total lunar eclipse can be witnessed in all parts of Indonesia, except in small parts of Riau, parts of West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.
