05.10.24 – An event for young and old with insights behind the scenes, hands-on activities and lots of fun for the children: It was precisely this large program that attracted many visitors to the Hofberg on German Unity Day from the Helios St. Elisabeth Clinic Hünfeld. She also organized Mouse Day and Family Health Festival at the same time.
Mouse Day and Family Health Festival: On the Day of German Unity, the Helios St. Elisabeth Clinic Hünfeld ensured a full house with these two activities. A good 1,000 visitors came to the Hofberg on the holiday to spend interesting and fun hours there. It had already become apparent in the previous weeks that the day could be a success.

Mouse Day ensures 750 establishments opened their doors
Up to 50 children between the ages of four and 13 were originally able to register for Mouse Day. These places were fully booked shortly after advertising for the event began, so the clinic increased the contingent. Ultimately, more than 60 children were able to get to know the Hünfelder Hospital during these special activities.
Mouse Day is organized once a year by the WDR show with the mouse. This time, more than 750 facilities nationwide have opened their doors to little visitors. In Hünfeld, the children went on a one-hour tour of the clinic. Among other things, they learned from doctors and nurses and were shown what happens in the operating room, what it is like in the emergency room and what it looks like in the human body: operating on gummy bears from a doll, treating a large cuddly toy and an employee had made up wounds, put on a bandage.
A look behind the scenes during the family health festival
In addition to Mouse Day, there were lots of fun activities for the young visitors. On the occasion of the parallel open day, the family health festival, the Helios St. Elisabeth Clinic Hünfeld organized face painting, a photo box and a bouncy castle. There was also a teddy bear clinic and the children were able to watch as the hospital’s operating room staff removed gummy bears from a cuddly toy.

The young clinic visitors were kept busy. This meant that the adults also had enough time to take a look behind the scenes of the hospital during the family health festival. Among other things, they were able to take a tour of the operating room and see an ambulance from the DRK Hünfeld.
There were also informative hands-on activities such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and eight medical lectures spread throughout the day in which they could find out about the range of services provided by the Helios St. Elisabeth Clinic Hünfeld. Topics included modern foot surgery, thyroid diseases and first aid for children. A total of around 200 interested people found their way into the lecture rooms.
The highlight: a look into the operating room
Many interested people were also drawn to other areas of the clinic. Where they could find out about the hospital’s services in direct conversation or take part in hands-on activities. Among other things, the head of physiotherapy, Ilona Helm, had a lot of discussions with visitors about different problems and therapy options.
The clinic’s Patient Service Center is also happy with the day. Its employees made several appointments with potential patients during the family health festival. Another highlight for the visitors was the view into the operating room. After all, most people usually experience this as patients – and then under anesthesia.

The partners of the Helios St. Elisabeth Clinic, who presented themselves on October 3rd, are also satisfied with the event. The DRK Hünfeld had parked a brand new emergency response vehicle in front of the hospital – it had not yet been used. Anyone who wanted could view the vehicle and have everything explained to them by the head of the rescue service, Steffen Diegmüller, and two DRK trainees.
The trio had a lot to do throughout the day. “We are very happy with what is going on with our ambulance,” said Diegmüller. The employees of the medical supply store Fendel Vital, which operates a branch in the Hünfeld hospital, also drew a similar conclusion. “It’s great what’s going on here. We didn’t expect it like that,” was the tenor. The Fendel team had set up a wheelchair course in front of the branch, which the children among the festival visitors in particular used permanently.

The date for the double day of action in the clinic, which was rounded off with delicacies from the cafeteria, a food truck and an ice cream truck, could hardly have been better. Almost exactly 30 years ago, on September 23, 1994, the new hospital building on the Hünfeld Hofberg was inaugurated. The hospital had previously been located in the street in front of Niederthor (later Niedertor) since 1739.
The new building of the clinic and its opening in 1994 is of great importance for Hünfeld and the surrounding area. Alexander Müller (Greens) also saw it that way at the time. During the inauguration, the then State Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Family and Health said: “I am sure that the new building is a stroke of luck for the entire region.” (mis/pm) +++
