François Rude Museum 8 rue Vaillant 21000 Dijon Dijon 21000 Côte-d’Or Bourgogne-Franche-Comté 03 80 48 88 77 Installed in 1947 in the transept of the Saint-Étienne church, built in the middle of the 11th century and whose nave was rebuilt in the 18th century, this museum presents casts of works by the Dijon sculptor François Rude (Dijon, 1784 – Paris, 1855). To make the production of this illustrious sculptor better known, the City of Dijon acquired or commissioned, from 1887 to 1910, casts of the main works of the artist. The capital and monumental piece of this set is the life-size molding of the famous bas-relief of the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile, the departure of the volunteers in 1792, commonly called the “Marseillaise”.
