Fumigation against mosquitoes will begin on Monday

In an effort to combat the spread of West Nile virus, several neighborhoods in the city will be quarantined for mosquitoes this week.

The map shows areas of Manhattan where the Health Department will be spraying low concentrations of pesticides starting Monday.

The spray includes areas of Central Park, parts of the Upper East Side, Morningside Heights, Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood.

The fumigations will begin at eight thirty in the morning, and will last until six in the morning the next day.

Mosquito spraying in Brooklyn will occur Wednesday night and last through Thursday morning.

Spray crews work in parts of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Gravesend, Bensonhurst and Coney Island.

It should be noted that special trucks will be used to spray the insects.

And although the Department of Health says that the chemicals they use to fight mosquitoes are considered a low risk to people and pets, New Yorkers are advised to stay indoors during spraying.
