As part of the Viersen Sustainability Action Days, the film “Was brennt” by Viersen director Jana Bauch was shown last Tuesday. The event was organized by the Parents for Future district of Viersen in the Süchtelner Königsburg.
Viersen-Süchteln – More than 60 spectators saw Jana Bauch’s film about the now demolished Lützerath, which gained international fame as a symbol against the Garzweiler opencast mine and the demolition of the opencast mining villages. In the film, Jana Bauch, who was responsible for directing, camera and sound, among other things, gives insights into the everyday life of the climate activists in Lützerath, but also into the violent eviction that took place by a large contingent at the beginning of 2023.
After the film, the director answered the audience’s numerous questions in a film discussion in which, in addition to her own work, he also repeatedly discussed the climate justice movement and the irresponsibility of open-cast lignite mining in times of an ever-increasing climate crisis. The film and the discussion showed that the climate justice movement is still active even after the demolition of Lützerath and it was emphasized several times in the evening that the problem surrounding the Garzweiler opencast mine is far from over, as the plans to flood the opencast mine threaten it Basic and drinking water supply for the entire region.
Information about further performances of the film as well as her other photo projects can be found on the director’s Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/janabauch/?hl=de.
The Parents for Future would like to thank the Königsburg, Jana Bauch and the audience for an interesting and lively evening that showed that Lützerath is still alive despite the demolition! (opm)
