Full pocket feeling. Amalia’s month-long trip to Dahab

Life between Bedouins, goats, herds of children and without internet and family. Desert sand and glow, evening prayers, the roar of the sea. Sickness and the fight against fear. These keywords only slightly outline the month-long trip alone by photographer Amalia Anderson, whose destination she chose Egypt – Dahab. It was a big challenge not only because of the various difficulties she experienced during the trip, but also because it was her first trip without companions.

We meet on a warm and sunny day. The sky is blue, everything is green around, it is blooming and already blooming. The people around them are dressed in colorful clothes, and thus life also appears in brighter tones. But this day is the exact opposite of the time Amalia decided that, despite what was happening in the world, she should go on a journey to Dahab to explore herself and regain her creativity. “The winter was gray, depressing, a lot had stopped and also canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both my profession and I am very creative, and I realized that I needed to get out, go somewhere to maintain my mental balance and creativity. I felt that if I didn’t go anywhere, it would be very difficult for me. “

It was the beginning of March this year, when she was looking for relatively safer destinations. Possible options were Mexico, Tanzania, Tenerife and Egypt – Dahab. The lottery fell in favor of the latter. “I knew I wanted to go straight to Dahab because I had heard about the city before and felt that it was something I needed. It was a place where I could live, paint and live the local life. I also read earlier, that officially there is no case of Covid-19 in Dahab, and when I get sick myself, I wonder if I need to be tested, but I don’t have to take tests in Dahab – I have to go to Sharm el-Sheikh. “
