“A fearless and combative life on the barricades of justice and injustice has come to an end,” reads the mourning message of his relatives about the crime journalist.
De Vries’ family says in the obituary that “everyone to whom Peter has meant something in his life has been invited to say goodbye to him.” What that will look like and where it will take place will be announced later.
Passion and determination
“We will miss his enthusiasm and determination,” says a message that Omroep MAX director Jan Slagter had placed in De Telegraaf for the crime reporter who died on Thursday. “A real person is no longer,” reads an obituary of former lawyer Bram Moszcowicz and Nienke Hoogervorst in the same newspaper.

‘You always listened so sweet’
“It is unthinkable that we have to miss you, but we have been overtaken by the harsh reality,” is the message from RTL Nederland in De Volkskrant, among others. “Peter, you will not be forgotten. Finally, we make you a promise: ‘We will not bend our knee’.”
Lawyer Peter Schouten, with whom De Vries, together with criminal lawyer Onno de Jong, formed the team that assists key witness Nabil B. in the extensive liquidation process Marengo, also says “with intense sadness to say goodbye” to De Vries. “Peter, you always listened so sweetly.”
