Ajax has announced the back numbers for the upcoming season via the official channels. During the Open Day of the team from Amsterdam, the new back numbers were announced and it was also announced that Steven Bergwijn will be the captain of Ajax next season.
The first thing you notice about the list of jersey numbers is that number ten is not yet occupied by a player. Ajax is emphatically looking for an attacking midfielder and that number may therefore not be used yet. It is also interesting to see that Jorrel Hato will wear number three next season, so he is seen as a regular basic force. Edson Álvarez has been assigned number four, but the Mexican will make the switch to West Ham United in the short term and his shirt number will be released again for a possible defensive reinforcement.
Newcomers Carlos Forbs, Jakov Medic, Branco van den Boomen, Benjamin Tahirović and Diant Ramaj will wear back numbers eleven, eighteen, 21, 33 and 40 respectively next season. Ajax does indicate that the back numbers can still be changed during the transfer period. This is probably related to upcoming inbound and outbound transfers. Álvarez, for example, is about to leave. In addition, Davy Klaassen and Mohammed Kudus are regularly associated with a departure from Amsterdam.
