Full confusion after Nvidia canceled the launch of video cards

In a slightly special twist, Nvidia announced on Friday night that it regretted the launch of the only RTX 4080 variant that will arrive in November.

It was in September that Nvidia showed the RTX 4090, RTX 4080 16GB and RTX 4080 12GB, but now they are cutting the latest version.

– The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic video card, but it doesn’t have the right name. Having two graphics cards with the name 4080 is confusing. Then I hit the “start button”, write them on their website.

The 16GB RTX 4080 will arrive on November 16th. It is not known what will happen to the second version.

There isn’t usually much difference in performance between two versions of the same model with different memory, but the 12GB version actually had significantly fewer CUDA cores than the 16GB video memory variant.

Hit the launch

The consequence of the change is that I get an RTX 4080 graphics card for the tidy sum of NOK 15,400. For comparison, the RTX 3080 came in for NOK 8,000 in September 2020.

If not, the launch of the RTX 4090 was apparently a huge success for Nvidia and most of the products in Norwegian online stores are out of stock.

The cost of the partner card ranges from around NOK 21,000 up to NOK 28,000.

Tek.no reported today that there are already people posting video cards on Finn.no at much higher prices.

At the time of writing, there are four announcements on Finn.no where individuals are selling the RTX 4090.

Receives criticism

On social media, discussions have raged over the marketing of the 4000 series.

The discussion is particularly tied to Nvidia’s promise of two to four times the performance, which they haven’t been fully able to deliver.

DLSS 3’s childhood and lack of input for the latest DisplayPort standard also sparked awe, as Intel has this on its Arc series.
