Fujisawa Mayoral Election 2022: Candidates, Speeches, and Voting Information

The Fujisawa mayoral election in Kanagawa Prefecture, due to the expiration of the term, was announced on the 11th, with newcomers Makoto Kunimatsu (62), a former prefectural assembly member, Rinko Aihara (63), a representative of a political organization, and Tsuneo Suzuki, the current incumbent seeking a fourth term. 74) have all filed their candidacy as independent candidates. Mr. Aihara gave a street speech with supporters at the south exit of JR Fujisawa Station from 1:30 p.m., calling for infrastructure renovation rather than large-scale development and calling for votes, saying, “Let’s change Fujisawa city government to be transparent.”

Suzuki, who held a launch ceremony at Yugyoji Temple in the city at noon, emphasized the city’s achievements over the past 12 years during his three terms, including the increase in the city’s population by about 30,000 people since taking office. He said, “We will revitalize the development of six hubs in the city, stabilize tax revenue, and reflect it in the lives of citizens.”

Voting will be held at 73 polling stations in the city from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the 18th, and vote counting will be held at the Akihabadai Cultural Gymnasium from 9:15 p.m. on the same day. As of the 10th, the number of people registered on the electoral roll is 370,170. (Asako Sunagami)
