FUJIFILM X100VI hands-on detailed practical test! The much-anticipated successor to FUJIFILM X100V has finally landed in Hong Kong. The unwire editorial department can’t wait to do a real-life shooting test in Hong Kong with everyone. As a must-buy model for young people, the X100VI’s body design also pays homage to classic cameras. The best part is that it adds a 6.0-level anti-shake function, and the body is still extremely compact. Without going into too much detail, I will now actually test FUJIFILM X100VI with you, and let the editor share with you my experience of using it.
See all the test shots at once: Flickr Album
If you want to see all the trials at once, you can enter the special FUJIFILM X100VI Flickr album (click to enter). The test photos inside are all straight-out JPEGs, with only partial brightness adjustment and no post-production color correction, allowing everyone to pay more attention to the color and imaging of this camera. The camera light and dark difference is set to DR100.
The body design of FUJIFILM X100VI pays homage to classic film cameras. Basic optical adjustment operations can be completed on the body, including the classically designed shutter dial, the small sensitivity ISO dial set inside the shutter dial, and the aperture ring on the lens. Regardless of the design and actual shooting use, it has a classic camera feel.
The aperture ring attached to the lens allows you to see the current aperture size at a glance. It is full of molten steel, has just the right tightness when turning, and has a unique click feeling. In terms of tactile feel, I believe it is the closest design to a classic camera.
Just like other FUJIFILM, the shutter is drilled to allow the user to set a personalized shutter button. The editor especially likes the silver decoration, not only the shutter button, but also the hot shoe. Everyone can decorate on this literary machine.
▲The shutter button is drilled so you can install a personalized Soft Release button yourself
FUJIFILM X100VI sensitivity ISO and shutter share the same dial. In the past, you had to continuously pull up the small ring on the periphery of the turntable and adjust it to the desired sensitivity ISO; with the X100VI, after you pull up the small ring, it can be fixed, eliminating the need for you to continue to pull the small ring, making the operation much more convenient.
▲X100VI can be fixed after picking up the ISO dial, and users can slowly switch to the appropriate sensitivity
▲Filp’s awn design is suitable for both low- and high-photography photography, but it does not have a reflection awn for selfies.
▲This small lever is a tribute to the rangefinder camera. It can customize 3 functions (move the lever left or right, press the button)
Very satisfied with the image clarity
You can definitely describe the FUJIFILM X100VI as “the most comprehensive street photography camera”. From the moment you take the first photo, you can feel the ultra-detailed resolution of its latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor. Its ISO sensitivity is 125, which is the extended sensitivity of the previous generation. Low ISO shooting allows you to take clearer photos with better light recording levels in well-lit environments.
Although the camera lens of this generation of X100VI is the same as the previous generation, it is FUJINON SUPER EBC 23mm f/2.0 (135-frame equivalent focal length is about 35mm), but with the new sensor, the photo detail is very high, even at full aperture f/2.0 , the lines in the mid-focus position are very delicate.
This 23mm (135 frame equivalent is about 35mm) lens is very suitable for taking photos of people + scenery. It is most suitable for traveling to take pictures of scenery, or people + scenery. The minimum focusing distance of the lens is 10cm, which is very suitable for shooting food and flowers at close range, creating natural and blurry bokeh. This focal length is also very suitable for street photography. When the shutter is set to f/8 in a daylight environment, you can shoot scenes from 2 meters to infinity with almost no need to focus, and you can get clear photos at the same time.

Latest REALA ACE film simulation test
The REALA ACE film simulation effect newly added to the FUJIFILM GFX100 II has also been brought to the X camera series for the first time in the X100VI. FUJIFILM describes this film simulation effect as “faithfully reproducing colors and providing harder tones, suitable for various scenes.” In practical applications, it will make the brighter colors a little more restrained, but compared to classic negatives and Classic Chrome, they will still be brighter; the contrast of the photo will also be relatively low, the difference between light and darkness will be smoothed out, and the shadows in the environment will be Details in the highlight range can be expressed more clearly.
If you think that Classic Chrome and classic negatives will make the atmosphere of the photo lower and more stylish, the performance of REALA ACE will be relatively average, not as dramatic as the first two. A brightly colored photo will retain its lively feel and look more natural. If compared with the most commonly used PROVIA, the contrast of REALA ACE is obviously lower, the bright parts of the color will be more restrained, and the overall color will be slightly warmer. In scenes with relatively large light differences, REALA ACE can also bring out many hidden details. Users can take photos with natural colors and luminosity without having to focus on photography, which is very suitable for street photography and travel photorealistic check-in purposes.

ACROS black and white film simulation, combined with a high-resolution sensor, can display black and white images with fine lines
Taking black and white photos in low light conditions is particularly interesting
And whether you use film simulation or not, the colors produced by FUJIFILM’s sensor this time are equally stunning.
The interface design is user-friendly and the photography experience is perfect
After using X100VI for many days, I can feel its extremely user-friendly experience from different aspects. The body is well-shaped and feels good when holding the camera and shutter. The design of the body and interface can enhance the shooting experience.
The X100VI is equipped with an autofocus function. The lens focus ring can be used to switch the digital zoom magnification ratio during autofocus. Rotating the focus ring can change the camera’s focal length from 35mm (135 frame equivalent, the same below) to longer focal lengths of 50mm and 75mm. When you want to zoom in on a scene, just turn the zoom ring gently and humanely. After switching the focal length of the digital zoom, you can see that the white box of the optical viewfinder shrinks and is correctly displayed in the viewfinder. The actual range of the photo will eventually be captured, which is very interesting like a rangefinder camera. .
▲3 focal lengths can be easily switched through the zoom ring
▲One twist lens digital zoom 50mm (135 equivalent)
▲Turn the zoom further to 75mm (135 equivalent)
In addition, the X100VI’s two customizable scroll wheels are really easy to use. As we all know, the X100VI body already has dedicated dials for aperture, shutter, ISO, and even manual exposure compensation, so these two custom wheels give users a lot of freedom to customize your commonly used functions. The editor likes to set the dial on the back of the camera to “Film Simulation”, so that the film simulation effect can be easily changed according to the mood and shooting situation. In addition to optical settings, many camera functions can be called in the “Q” menu, which is familiar to FUJIFILM users. Users can call up settings such as focus mode, white balance, photo quality, tone adjustment, flash, AI recognition type, etc. with one click, which is very convenient.
Great improvements in night photography
The new X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor also greatly improves the image quality of night photography. In the previous generation X100V, it goes without saying that there was a lot of noise in low light. If the noise processing is turned on, the photo will have a heavy smear feeling. Especially if you usually use a full-frame camera, you don’t want to use it to shoot at night. Even though the new sensor of FUJIFILM X100VI is still in APS-C format and has 40.2 million pixels, which means a finer pixel arrangement, the shooting effect in low-light environments is ideal and the lines are clear. If you enlarge the photo to 100% on the computer screen, you will still see a slight smearing feeling. However, when it comes to 40 million pixel photos, even if you view the photo on the computer, it will only be enlarged to about 25%. We actually tried it on a 27-inch computer screen. Viewed above, the detail of the photo and the subtlety of the gradient between light and dark are still very real.
Excellent anti-shake system
It has become mainstream to add an anti-shake system to cameras. This generation of FUJIFILM X100VI adds an image stabilization system without increasing the size and weight of the camera. Officials say the effect can reach level 6.0. The anti-shake function is very useful when shooting at night. As mentioned earlier, the X100VI’s photos are extremely detailed and clear when shooting in low light. With the anti-shake function, you can take the same photos in lower light and darker conditions. Get clear imaging. In actual tests, the editor personally feels comfortable shooting with a shutter speed of 1/5 to 1/10 seconds.

Super positive optical viewfinder – a unique photography experience that other FUJI cameras cannot give you
Everyone loves to look at the preview effect on the LCD screen when taking photos, but some people also say that if you always only look at the LCD screen when taking pictures of landscapes, then when you travel, your eyes will only have a very small amount of time to actually see the scenery. The optical viewfinder of FUJIFILM X100VI allows you to see the real world through the glass when taking pictures. The X100VI optical viewfinder displays a very wide range, and a white digital photo frame is displayed inside to circle the shooting range of the photo. Compared with electronic viewfinders or LCD screens, optical viewfinders allow you to see what is happening in the world outside the lens. When shooting street photography, you can see a more macroscopic view of the street landscape. When it comes to the most wonderful moment (such as your target) (the person comes into the frame), then press the shutter button to take the photo of the scene at that moment.
Next to the white frame of the optical viewfinder, the camera’s optical settings, such as aperture, shutter, sensitivity, and battery level, are displayed, allowing you to check all relevant settings at a glance at any time. You can even see all the positions of the focus frame and the focus points sensed by the autofocus in the optical viewfinder. The editor has measured that the white frame range of the optical viewfinder is almost the same as the range of the actual photos taken. You don’t have to worry about the camera taking unwanted scenery into the photos.
Built-in flash, useful in emergencies
Like the X100V, this time the FUJIFILM X100VI has a built-in flash, and it is not a pop-up flash like other cameras, but is built right in front of the surface of the fuselage. Because of this, users need to be familiar with the luminosity of the flash and the shooting distance, otherwise the flash light will be too bright. If adjusted properly, the built-in flash can keep the subjects from being too dark in night scenes + portraits, or backlight shooting. Of course, the X100VI also has a flash hot shoe, which can be used with an optional external flash to enhance the light.
Filming supports up to 6.2K image quality/6K sampling and 4K image quality shooting
FUJIFILM X100VI supports high-resolution video shooting at up to 6.2K 30fps, and also supports 4K 30fps recording with 6.2K sampling. Pure 4K quality recording can support up to 60fps. Supports automatic tracking focus function when recording videos. With the built-in IBIS anti-shake system and advanced video anti-shake effect, there is no problem in positioning the PAN lens during shooting. But if the user is moving and recording at the same time, there will still be a certain amount of vibration. You can’t regard it as an action camera! The camera’s ability to record videos is pretty good.
▲6.2K image quality, up to 29.97P recording can be selected
▲Only native 4K recording supports 59.94P
Summary: The body is stylish enough, and the photography experience is most similar to a classic rangefinder.
The editor personally has played with a lot of rangefinder film cameras, and even rangefinder digital cameras. I have used FUJIFILM X-T30 II, X-T5, and X-H2. I also own an X-Pro 3. I personally think FUJIFILM Among the many cameras, it is the closest to a rangefinder photography experience. Its optical viewfinder design is remarkable. Other operating systems such as aperture, shutter, and sensitivity can all be set on the body. Regardless of the operation method, it feels the same and has a rangefinder feel. The most improved anti-shake function in this generation has significant effects in photography and filming. The performance of face and eye recognition has been greatly enhanced in terms of focusing, making this X100 series, which has not released a new machine in many years, become a new model. More modern. I believe that many people can’t wait to queue up to buy the phone. Needless to say, the media is rushing to buy it, but what I want to say is that all the waiting will be worth it.
▲The optical viewfinder will save more electricity. If you use the LCD screen to preview the shooting effect, it is best to prepare 2 batteries for all-day shooting needs, or bring a mobile power bank with you when you go out
