The Fujairah Social and Cultural Association, within the activities of the first Fujairah Agricultural Forum, organized by the association, last Saturday at the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, honored Saeed bin Muhammad Al Raqbani, former Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Special Adviser to His Highness the Ruler of Fujairah, in appreciation of his pioneering career full of national and development work, and an appreciation for his efforts In upgrading the agricultural sector since the establishment of the state at the local and regional levels.
Dr. Muhammad Saeed Al-Kindi, former Minister of Environment and Water, and Khaled Al-Dhanhani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association, handed the son of Saeed bin Muhammad Al-Raqbani, Engineer Hamad Saeed Al-Raqbani, the shield of honor, and the pioneers of agriculture in Fujairah were also honored, along with the speakers in the main forum session.
During the forum titled “Towards Green Development for the Sustainability of Agricultural Resources”, the Association announced the launch of the Farmers’ Council in Fujairah, with a formation that includes Ahmed Al-Hafiti, Saeed Al-Maili, Rashid Al-Attar and Rashid Al-Hantoubi, all of whom are farm owners and have rich experience in the agricultural sector, provided that the Council works under the supervision of the Fujairah Association. In the main session of the forum, which was moderated by Engineer Fatima Al-Hantoubi, Dr. Ali Al-Amoudi, the UN advisor, discussed the concept of sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without undermining the resources of the future.
Counselor Hamid Al-Hamid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Agricultural Pioneers Association, spoke about agricultural practices and effective mechanisms in agricultural investment and comprehensive planning for the agricultural process, stressing the importance of preparing a feasibility study for agricultural activity and creating a trademark for agricultural marketing and diversification in investment.
Safaa Muhammad Ghazal, an expert in sustainable development, spoke about the importance of security and safety in agricultural practices, and touched on some conditions in the agricultural process, such as soil, its quality, and its importance in agriculture, fertilizers, water, production, prevention, and harvesting operations.
Fatima Al-Harmoudi, Head of the Community Participation Department at the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company “Tadweer”, stressed the importance of recycling agricultural waste, and the need to reduce waste in agriculture, given that agriculture includes a number of operations that generate waste such as transporting seeds, storing them, and even planting them and other operations.
Khaled Al-Dhanhani confirmed in a press statement that the forum will be organized annually to constitute a comprehensive platform for those interested and experts in the agricultural field, to discuss and discuss the challenges of agriculture in light of global climate changes and in order to advance the agricultural sector in the Emirate of Fujairah by providing knowledge, pointing to the importance of the forum, as it coincides with The country’s preparations to host the “COP28” conference, in addition to its contribution to supporting the objectives of the National Strategy for Food Security 2051.
He said: The forum aimed to shed light on the agricultural sector and care for agricultural producers in Fujairah, and to provide exceptional opportunities for local farmers to meet, exchange experiences and engage in open dialogue, to discuss ideas for developing their farms and expanding the green area.
In turn, Engineer Fatima Al-Hantoubi, Director of the Forum, explained that the axes succeeded in shedding light on the agricultural process and strategies for managing the agricultural sector in the country, the latest technologies used and projects to multiply agricultural production, in addition to best practices and global initiatives applied in agricultural production, agricultural waste and modern ways to benefit from it.
