The former head of the BBR, Stoyan Mavrodiev, will return to the country in a few weeks, “Weekend” reports, citing its sources.
Most likely, the former head of the BBR will become a protected witness against Rumen Gaitanski-Valka and will reveal the circumstances under which the 150 million loan was granted to his company, which was never returned.
It is a public secret that BGN 30 million of the amount was transferred in cash to Ahmed Dogan.
Mavrodiev is currently hiding in an apartment in Dubai in a prestigious hotel. Although he has his own residence in the emirate, he has not taken up residence there, possibly out of fear that he could be found relatively easily.
The financier was preparing his strategy and had already hired lawyers. On his return, he would announce that he had been threatened by Valka and Ahmed Dogan that if the bank did not release the amount, he would be liquidated.
Meanwhile, an interesting detail from his short political career has surfaced. Stoyan Mavdoriev hated Boyko Borisov, because during the first mandate of GERB, the financier did not become a minister, but was replaced by the state star Simeon Dyankov.
This gossip was recalled by deputies about Mavrodiev after his famous escape from Bulgaria, aka Veska Medzhidieva, and his international wanted notice.
According to them, during the reinforcement of GERB to the government in 2009, Mavrodiev was one of the strongest and most active financial experts of the formation and had the promise personally from the leader that he would be the Minister of Finance in the first government of Borisov.
Suddenly, however, the master of lean pizza was invited and marked as the future head of the finance department, and Mavrodiev fell out of the ministerial rut.
However, he did not even suspect that the new star from across the ocean would replace him, and when the GERB cabinet was formed, Mavrodiev was the last to find out that he would be just an ordinary head of the commission to investigate the government of Sergei Stanishev in the parliament.
Deputies assured “Weekend” that Mavrodiev was more than furious and did not hide his hatred for both Dyankov and Borisov, who betrayed him.
Rumen Gaitanski-Valka’s top creditor didn’t even hide his irritation and on the phone berated Dyankov’s financial operations, calling him “non-staff” and using epithets that would make the newspaper’s more conservative audience blush.
In the meantime, deputies admitted that Mavrodiev was stupid by fleeing the country, as it would be difficult to bring charges against him for the 150 million BGN credit given to Valka.
According to lawyers in the National Assembly, this will be difficult to prove as abuse or a violation of the law, and magistrates are already thinking about what new evidence to invent against the former director of the Bulgarian Development Bank, because even if he returns to the country, the prosecution would have no way to actually accuse him for the given loan given the fact that Mavrodiev did not do it alone.
