Oil prices rose more than three percent on Wednesday. This was due to an unexpected drop in inventories in the United States and Hurricane Sally, which cut off part of mining in the Gulf of Mexico.

Around 17:50 CEST, the price of North Sea oil Brent rose by 3.7 percent to $ 42.01 per barrel. US light crude WTI rose 4.1 percent to $ 39.84 a barrel at the same time.

Oil prices have fallen this month due to a growing number of new cases of covid-19 and concerns about further demand developments. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) also lowered their oil demand outlook this week.

The OPEC + monitoring committee, which includes the OPEC oil cartel and other leading oil miners, led by Russia, meets on Thursday. The aim of the meeting is to review the current mining agreement. Ministers are not expected to recommend further mining restrictions to the group, Reuters reported.
