Thiruvananthapuram: For the fourth day in a row, fuel prices have gone up in the country. Today, petrol is 25 paise and diesel 32 paise. Fuel prices hit all-time highs in major cities across the country.

In Mumbai, petrol price has gone up by Rs 94 to 50 paise. In Delhi too, petrol prices hit an all-time high. 87 and 90 paise. In Bengaluru, petrol price has gone up by Rs 90 to 85 paise. In Thiruvananthapuram today, the petrol price is Rs 89.73. Diesel price is Rs 83 for 91 paise. In Kochi, petrol costs Rs 88 for 10 paise and diesel Rs 82 for 40 paise.

Petrol prices in rural areas of the state are above Rs 90 per liter. Retail fuel prices in India are currently at their highest level since October 2018. Oil companies have been raising petrol and diesel prices since November 19. Prior to that, fuel prices had remained unchanged for two months.

In 2018, when petrol and diesel prices soared, the government took some action. The excise duty on petrol and diesel was reduced by Rs 1.5 per liter. In addition, government oil companies have reduced the rupee by one rupee per liter.

Oil prices in India are determined on the basis of crude oil prices in the international market. At the same time, the value of the dollar is crucial. If the rupee appreciates against the dollar, it will lead to lower oil prices.
