– It has been a long time since we have had such low prices. I can’t remember when it was last, says Henning Aarsand, director of station operations in Automat 1 to Nettavisen.
The time with petrol and diesel prices of over NOK 27 is for good reason. Prices are now being pushed down due to a price war between the fuel players, according to Aarsand.
– In most of our areas there has been a big price war at Easter. Everyone is trying to hijack the Easter customers. Then we have pushed the prices down a little extra in our areas, he says.
In several places in the country, the price is under 18 kroner a litre, and the average for the whole country is under 19 kroner.

On Tuesday, Automat 1 has its lowest prices in Rakkestad and Hønefoss.
– The lowest price of diesel is in Rakkestad and is NOK 17.07. The lowest price for unleaded 95 is in Hønefoss and is NOK 18.84.
– How long will the price stay here?
– It is likely that prices will eventually go up, says Aarsand, but stresses that it is difficult to say exactly when.

Cheapest place Tuesday

– If we look at the whole of Norway, the average price for diesel is NOK 18.72. For petrol, the average price is NOK 20.23, says analyst Syver Orhagen to Nettavisen.
They have compared 24,895 prices around the country on Tuesday. If we look at diesel prices, it pays to fill the tank in Surnadal – at NOK 16.19 per litre. You can get petrol the cheapest in Vennesla, at NOK 17.55. If you live in Stamsund, you are worst off in Norway on Tuesday. If you’re going to fill up with diesel, mind you.
– Then you have to fork out NOK 23.25 for the litre. Petrol is the most expensive in Ullsvåg – at NOK 25.36 a litre.
Local price wars
According to the Institute of Transport Economics, the average motorist buys 1,000 liters of petrol a year.
– Why are there such large price differences?
– The price variations for fuel largely depend on local competition, but factors such as location, exchange rate, crude oil price and other conditions also have an impact, explains Orhagen.
