Fuel Efficient Hybrid Honda CR-V RS e: HEV Launched in Tangerang

Tangerang

Honda officially launched the latest generation CR-V with a choice of hybrid engines. Armed with hybrid technology, the Honda CR-V is claimed to be more fuel efficient.

Priced at IDR 799.9 million, the Honda CR-V RS e: HEV is offered with a 2.0-liter direct-injected 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle DOHC engine. The engine is combined with Electric Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1.06 kWh.

In total, the combination of the electric motor and the All New Honda CR-V engine produces a maximum power of 207 PS and a maximum torque of 335 Nm.

Hybrid technology on the Honda CR-V RS e: HEV works automatically. The electric motor and petrol engine can operate independently. Efficient power management system and electric motor power that results in more dominant use of batteries compared to gasoline. It can maximize the efficiency of fuel consumption, making it more economical.

In fact, PT Honda Prospect Motor’s Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director Yusak Billy said that the fuel consumption of the Honda CR-V e: HEV with a 2,000 cc hybrid engine is on par with the Honda Brio, which has a 1,200 cc engine.

“Later there will be a test drive, later friends can measure it (for fuel consumption). But from the results of tests in Indonesia with the UN 101 method (UN ECE R101) which we have for all models, the results (fuel consumption) CR- V Hybrid is on par with Brio,” Billy said when met at GIIAS 2023, at ICE, BSD City, Tangerang.

Billy did not say exactly how much the fuel consumption of the CR-V Hybrid or Honda Brio would be. However, for the Honda Brio, which is included in the low cost green car (LCGC) category, the fuel consumption is regulated.

Written in Government Regulation no. 73 of 2019 concerning Taxable Goods Classified as Luxury in the Form of Motor Vehicles Subject to Sales Tax on Luxury Goods, a car that is categorized as an LCGC must have a minimum fuel consumption of 20 kilometers per liter or a CO2 emission level of up to 120 grams per kilometer. Under these conditions, Brio, which is sold as LCGC, has a minimum fuel consumption of 20 km/liter. That is, if the CR-V Hybrid results are on par with the Brio, then the fuel consumption can be 20 km/liter.

“But once again it depends on the conditions of use. I’m sure that it’s really more economical in the city, because (when stopped in a traffic jam) only the (electric) motor moves,” said Billy.

“We’ll see. But the test results using the UN 101 method at the center are the same as Brio. Just try it later,” Billy concluded.

Meanwhile, the e:HEV system works in three Driving Systems which consist of EV Mode, Hybrid Mode and Engine Mode. All three will automatically change according to road conditions, driving, engine load and how to drive the vehicle. Under normal driving conditions with low engine load, the system will use EV mode, that is, only the battery drives the motor so that no gasoline is used and produces no emissions.

When the car needs more power to accelerate more strongly, the system will use Hybrid mode, the gasoline engine and battery work together to drive the electric motor which produces a balance between power and fuel efficiency. When driving at high speed, the system will use Engine Drive mode, the engine will fully drive the wheels to produce more power.
