The FSB claims that an attempt to import 27 homemade bombs hidden in icons and church utensils into Russia was stopped in the Pskov region, RIA Novosti reports.
As the department stated, the cargo allegedly followed the route: Ukraine – Romania – Hungary – Slovakia – Poland – Lithuania – Latvia – Russia.
In total, the FSB said in a statement, they managed to seize 27 explosive devices, 70 kilograms of high-power explosives and 91 detonators.
The message notes that one person was detained. The investigative department of the FSB Directorate for the Pskov Region opened a case of smuggling explosives by a group of people by prior conspiracy.
The FSB also distributed video recordingwhich claims that the explosive hidden in the icons is hexogen, and that the cargo was heading to Moscow.
“The power of this explosive is one and a half times greater than the power of TNT. The mass of the seized explosive is sufficient to blow up a five-story residential building,” stated Head of the ECC department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Pskov region Dmitry Belotserkovsky.
There is no independent confirmation of the FSB data.
