American researchers announced that the mango fruit is able to stabilize the level of sugar in the blood and improve the general condition of people suffering from type 2 diabetes.
Express reports that it became clear to researchers that the polyphenols present in mangoes have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, according to the “Russia Today” website.
The researchers note, “The mango fruit contains a number of known bioactive compounds, such as carotenoids, tocopherols, ascorbic acid, dietary fiber, phenolic mangiferin compounds, gallic acid and quercetin.”
The researchers selected volunteers with type 2 diabetes and added dried mango pulp to their diet. After a few months, the volunteers’ blood sugar level decreased after eating. The researchers also noted a decrease in the percentage of body fat in the majority of the volunteers.
However, researchers warn that mango is high in sugar, so patients should eat it in small amounts.
