Exports from Spain to Portugal grow by 11% more in the first eight months of this year and imports by 15%

Yesterday, Spain and Portugal held the thirty-fifth Iberian Summit in Faro, in the Portuguese Algarve. In the fruit and vegetable field, trade exchanges between the two countries continue to grow, both Spanish exports to Portugal, with 11% more in the first eight months of this year, totaling 529,844 tons, and Spanish imports from the neighboring country, which grew by 15%, amounting to 242,041 tons.

From January to August 2024, Spanish exports of fresh fruits and vegetables to Portugal increased by 11%, totaling 529,844 tons and 11% in value, reaching 533 million euros. Growth has been continued over the years. In the period analyzed, from January to August, of the last five years, Spanish exports have grown by 27%, going from 416,050 tons to 529,844 tons. The value has grown by 66%, going from 320 million euros to 533 million.

Spanish imports from Portugal until August 2024 have grown by 15% in volume compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 242,041 tons and 18% in value, standing at 259 million euros.

The growth of imports from Portugal has also been continued. In the months of January-August of the last five years, it has gone from 159,000 tons in 2020 to 242,041 tons, 52% more and the value has grown by 90%, going from 136 million euros to 259 million euros, according to data processed by FEPEX of the Customs and Excise Department.
