FROGNER, OSLO (Nettavisen): FRP party leader Sylvi Listhaug has traveled around the country to collect votes this summer. On Monday evening, the results from this year’s municipal elections will come in. The last stop in the election campaign for the FRP leader is Shell Frogner with Fpu leader Simen Velle. Fuel must be filled here before the party leader returns home to vote.
– It makes a big dent in people’s wallets. It is slim from before, says Listhaug, referring to the price of petrol.
Here at Frogner, Listhaug has to shell out NOK 606 or NOK 24.79 per liter for 24.48 liters of petrol.

Looking at the Swedes’ grip
In the search for cheaper petrol prices, Listhaug and Velle single out Sweden. This week the news came that Sweden is lowering the tax on fuel next year.
– Sweden has reduced the fees. After all, they don’t have a single krone in income from oil and gas, while we get record income from the continental shelf. Nevertheless, it should not benefit the residents, says Listhaug.
We are used to seeing or hearing Sylvi Listhaug warning against “Swedish conditions” and slaughtering Swedish immigration policy. But exactly Swedish tax cuts, Listhaug has a taste for.
– So you think we should look to Sweden for once?
– Yes absolutely. They do good things there too – especially on the tax side, says Listhaug.

Will reduce prices by up to five kroner per litre
Fpu leader Velle is particularly concerned about how the prices affect young people who have to drive to school or their part-time jobs.
– We have a government – in which the Center Party is involved – which is literally skinning young people all over the country. I think that’s absolutely insane!
The FRP has proposed to reduce the road use tax. The party will press for a tax reduction of NOK five per liter for petrol and NOK 3.5 per liter for diesel drivers. VAT is included in the calculation.
– Much of the problem is that there are two approaches to getting people to use the car less. One is that you can develop the sensible solutions and make it simple and rational for people to choose. That is what the Progress Party is for. But the other parties in the Storting would rather ensure that the unreasonable election is as expensive and as difficult as possible, precisely to force people out of the car, says Velle.
– As politicians, we have a responsibility to tempt people onto the train, not whip them out of the car, adds the Fpu leader.
The road use tax was introduced in 1933 and the CO2 tax was introduced in the 90s. The FRP was in government for over six years from 2014 to 2020. Then they had, among other things, both the finance minister and the transport minister.
– Why didn’t you remove or cut the fees then?
– We actually did that one year. Then it was not price adjusted. So, in effect, we were able to reduce it. But otherwise we made sure that it did not increase. If the CO2 tax was increased, the road use tax should be reduced accordingly. On our watch, there was no increase, says Listhaug.
– Who are you going to include in the tax cuts?
– We will work to achieve this until 2025. We hope to get a change, says Listhaug.
