The National Health Commission of China published new regulations to intensify control over imported products, after detecting the new coronavirus in frozen packaging, including chicken wings from Brazil.
The new rules establish the thorough disinfection of frozen product packaging and the adequate protection of personnel in contact with these products, in addition to the increase in health inspections throughout the chain, from arrival at customs to the point of sale.
“If the result of a test [a um produto congelado importado] positive, it must be returned or destroyed, as stipulated by the rules “, it is determined.
Chinese authorities also emphasize the need to record the route taken by each of these products, to facilitate the tracking of possible infections.
The ad appears the day after a docker at the port of Tianjin, in the north of the country, has been diagnosed with covid-19.
The man was infected after contact with a package in which traces of the virus were found, according to local media.
On Saturday, authorities in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, claimed to have found traces of the virus during a random inspection of frozen pork packaging from Germany, and landed at Tianjin port on October 19, which assumes that the virus has survived in the packaging for at least 19 days.
On September 24, two dockworkers in the eastern port of Qingdao also contracted the virus when they came into contact with packages containing traces of covid-19.
The infection resulted, weeks later, in an outbreak in the city, according to Chinese authorities.
In the past few months, several frozen products from countries like Ecuador or Brazil have put the Chinese authorities on alert.
Last August, the central province of Shanxi announced a ban on the purchase, sale and use of white shrimp from Ecuador, after detecting several cases of coronavirus in packaging.
The city of Shenzhen, in the southeast, detected traces of the virus in packages of frozen chicken wings from Brazil and, a month earlier, in seafood from Ecuador.
The total number of active infected people in mainland China is 424, of which eight are in serious condition.
China has recorded a total of 4,634 deaths due to the disease and 86,245 infected since the beginning of the pandemic in the central city of Wuhan.
