Frost Giant, a studio founded by former Blizzard employees, has launched beta testing of its esports RTS called Stormgate. The premiere was timed to coincide with the start of the Games to Be festival on Steam.
The Stormgate demo will be available to everyone throughout the week. Frost Giant representatives noted that many aspects of the game are still under development, but those interested can already try out the party game and test most of the mechanics and units.
In addition, the authors announced the EGC Stormgate Open – an esports tournament with a prize fund of $10 thousand. Players who complete the procedure will be able to participate in it registration — the organizers will hold open qualifications. Four participants will qualify for the championship based on their performance during the open beta test: Stormgate already has a leaderboard. The qualifiers will take place on February 10-11, and the finals will take place on February 17-18.
A release date for Stormgate has not yet been announced, but early access after the end of the open beta will open later in 2024. The authors noted that in the future they plan to develop the e-sports component of the title.
