Chris Froome feels that he has almost completely recovered from last year’s heavy crash. The four-time winner of the Tour de France participated on Sunday with a number of teammates in a virtual race of Team INEOS.
“It is going very well,” said 34-year-old Froome about his recovery after the 28-kilometer virtual race. “I would even say that I have recovered almost completely.”
The Brit crashed in June 2019 during the exploration of the time trial in the Critérium du Dauphiné. He suffered fractures in his thigh, hip, elbow, rib cage and cervical vertebra.
After a long rehabilitation period, Froome returned to the peloton in February at the Tour of the United Arab Emirates. After a 71st place in the general classification, he found that he was no longer in pain, but needed more competition rhythm.

‘Back to my normal training load’
A few months later he notices that he is back at his old training level. “I’m still doing some exercises to improve the right side of my body, but I’m back to my normal training load.”
Froome finished sixth in INEOS ‘virtual race over two and a half minutes from winner Rohan Dennis. It was the first time he drove a ‘race’ since his performance in the Emirates. Due to the corona crisis, he is currently training at home in France.
“I am very busy with my children every day, cycling on my exercise bike as much as possible and also doing a lot of strength training. We all stimulate each other mentally, but we get through it,” he said.
