“Archery, we have to say to ourselves that above all, it is a complete sport in which the physique is as important as the mental”, wishes to underline Jean-Philippe Communaudat, vice-president of the Sun archers, also a trainer. “And also, for us, a family affair” is eager to add his partner Yolande, also a teacher, and president of the association since 2009.
To reach a goal
Indeed, this common passion, they owe it to their two daughters who excel in this discipline and whom they accompanied for years before entering a bow in their turn.
If today, Yolande loves this sport so much that she discovered thanks to her descendants, it is for all the qualities that she listed on the association’s website, among which: self-control, the beauty of gesture, precision, achieving a specific goal, consistency.
As for Jean-Philippe, a former hunter who has long traded his rifle for his bows, for his part he particularly appreciates the fact of being able to make them for the most part himself. “It is a personal object which must be adapted to a particular physique, evolved according to its level, precious object and which is still worth the price of a scooter!”.
A new member enters the room to take his bow (“initiation” this one, much cheaper, a few hundred euros). This is its 4th session. He is eager to practice in this discipline discovered not long ago. It “requires great attention, already allows you to clear your head, not to think of anything negative” he assures.
Hard hit by the Covid
This Thursday evening, at the Alexandre-Soubrier gymnasium, there are half a dozen like him to train freely on more or less distant targets. “Something also fantastic in this sport: all generations can meet in the same space. This is what makes the practice much more user-friendly than one might imagine”, explains Jean-Philippe. To date, out of the 57 members, about half are made up of young people. And the coach evokes the “negative” impact of the Covid: “Many other archers of tender ages have stopped and have not resumed, it will take years for our club to regain its level of ‘before the epidemic. But anyway, we still exist, and for that, we would like to thank the municipality which has always allowed us to have slots. not enough, I prefer to give an account of what they allow to achieve “.
