I tell you in this new report what a low cost flight within the United States with Frontier Airlines between Los Angeles and Las Vegas is like.
After a flight from Houston with United which involved a 3 hour wait for the connecting flight in Los Angeles to finally arrive in “Sin City”, I had the opportunity to fly Frontier for the first time.
On a planned trip, but which had several last minute changes and modifications, I was able to live the experience of flying on a low cost airline and one of the most important in the United States.
Frontier Airlines is a company founded in 1994, which today has a fleet of more than 110 aircraft, serving more than 115 domestic and international routes, in recent times it has incorporated new aircraft and destinations, underpinning its growth in a challenging North American market.
This is how it is to fly with this airline …
Flying from Los Angeles to Las Vegas with Frontier Airlines
I should start by stating that flying on a low-cost airline has its peculiarities, for example the ticket cost $ 40 dollars one way with all taxes, but to carry a suitcase in the hold that I needed, you have to pay extra.
Everything is extra, choosing a seat costs from $ 17 to $ 60, a carry-on bag $ 41 and a suitcase in the hold $ 39, but there is an advantage with Frontier, you can buy packages from $ 45 dollars that include all of the above, so the I recommend and it was what I did saving a lot than buying separately.
As the suitcase was paid in the hold (a backpack or similar is free) you can go directly to the bag drop line, after printing the boarding pass with the reservation code at the self-service kiosks.

Now come some peculiarities, there is news that Frontier will stop flying from Los Angeles – LAX due to high operating costs, which is why I possibly experienced one of its last flights at this airport, the other is that this airline checks-in from the airport. Terminal 1, but the flights depart from Terminal B, so it is an issue to take into account due to the transfer time.
After passing the TSA security filters, we go to the waiting area to board buses that will take us to the other terminal.
–
Although for some these transfers are annoying, for aviation lovers it is a unique opportunity to be close to airplanes that we would not see in our countries.
–
The number of flights at LAX is incredible, despite still having very low numbers due to the pandemic. Look at the message on the right.
–
At gate 203 was the departure of the flight, the first time in all trips in the United States that my temperature was taken to board.
–
The boarding of the plane is carried out in groups, to maintain a certain distance. This time my seat was the 4A selected within the package.
–
In this terminal also operate other low cost such as Allegiant. As a good airport in the United States, domestic flights are mixed with international ones.
–
As you continue reading, I invite you to watch the video I made of this report, where I show some additional details of this flight:
Don’t ask me why, but I love taking photos of the top panel to compare it from plane to plane.
–
Entering the runway to take off.
–
Dedicated to security card collectors.
–
One particularity, due to pandemic issues, as indicated by the cabin crew, there is no sale of food on board and its menu is suspended. You can only buy water for $ 2.50, although if you bring some chips to eat, no one will tell you that you cannot do it, but neither will you take a whole chicken ????
As a good low cost, there was no food or drink service.
–
Frontier is known for painting and baptizing its airplanes with animals and plants, in this case it was Ward the Beaver:
The plane that touched me is the Airbus A320neo with registration N363FR, with capacity for 186 passengers in a single class, powered by CFM LEAP 1-A engines with less than 2 years since its first flight and was assembled in the United States.
–
The flight was very quiet, what did catch my attention is the high level of marketing that is advertised through the plane’s speakers, new routes are discussed, new planes are discussed and promotional packages of exclusive miles are insistently sold for this flight.
Desert from north to south and from east to west, but the scenery is incredible.
–
An aerial panorama of Las Vegas on approach.
–
Personally, I love Frontier’s painting of animals and plants on the tail of his planes. They like?
–
I was struck by the order that was respected to board and the messages to maintain the distance, but as soon as the plane landed, the distance was over, there was no message and the disembarkation was as we knew it pre-pandemic.
The flight: TOTALLY FULL.
–
The experience was normal to the standard of flying in a low cost airline, but the tightness of the service at the airport was striking, where only 2 people attended 3 flights, they were late to check the suitcases and the attitude with the customers was not the most helpful from previous experiences flying with airlines of this type.
I want to close this report by solving a myth: Are there casino-style machines at McCarran International Airport? Totally and you find them in every corner, waiting rooms, corridors and many people use them.
Is the airport a Casino? Yes.
–
An extra fact: In Las Vegas no one wears a mask other than at the airport, so if they are going to travel there and in general to the United States they should understand that they live another reality and it is already normal life.
