From ‘Vidzeme jandāla’ to ‘Ābrama polka’. The dancers’ favorite dances have been found out

The survey on the co-repertoire of the XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival’s major performance “Eternal Engine” reveals the most popular dances of dance groups, their leaders and assistants. Six of them will be danced in the co-repertoire of the 2023 Song and Dance Festival dance major “Eternal Engine”.

As “Delfi” informs the representatives of the Latvian National Cultural Center, 2276 dance group leaders, assistants, tutors and dancers took part in the survey. The Latvian National Cultural Center and the Song Festival Society have compiled a dance top.

Taking into account the results of the survey, the co-repertoire of the XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival masterpiece “Eternal Engine” will include the following dances: “By the Sea” (choreography by Zanda Mūrniece, folk music by Valdis Zilvers), “Riga Raimonds Pauls music), “Vidzeme Jandals” (choreography by Gunta Skuja, folk music by Amanda Jātniece), “Klabdancis” (choreography by Viļa Ozols, music by Rūdolfs Steins), “Ābrama polka” (choreography by Ilmārs Dreļs) and folk music by “Sēļu waltz” (choreography by Gunta Skuja, folk music by Amanda Jātniece).

Riga*:

1. “Rīga dimd” (choreography by Jānis Purviņš, music by Raimonds Pauls) 224 votes
2. “Oh, Fatherland” (choreography by Uldis Žagatas, music by Raimonds Pauls) 182 votes
3. “Going Through Everything” (choreography by Jānis Purviņš, folk music in the group “Baļķi”) 84 votes

Vidzeme:

The Latvian National Cultural Center and the Song Festival Society would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey and expressed their opinion on the content of the major performance. Presentation seminars for the leaders of Latvian and diaspora dance groups, led by the artistic directors of the dance major Jānis Purviņš, Jānis Ērglis and the authors of the concept Kaspars Bērziņš, will start on July 6.
