from tonight, the Metropolitan Opera in New York will broadcast its shows for free • POSITIVR

Given the evolution of the coronavirus, it is very likely that we will all be confined to our homes, and this, for long weeks. For all that, will we have to give up all leisure and all cultural life? Certainly not. Many alternatives are already emerging to make art accessible to as many people as possible. Example with the Metropolitan Opera de New York which is preparing to distribute the archives of its shows on the Internet for free.

Each evening, a different performance will be broadcast. The operation starts this Monday March 16, 2020 with Carmen by Bizet. The video will be online from 7:30 p.m. and will remain accessible for 20 hours (in France, it will be available for playback on Tuesday between 12:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.).

Peter Gelb, director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, quoted by Le Figaro :

“We would like to offer some comfort to opera fans in these difficult times. “

Tuesday will be Bohemian by Puccini. Wednesday, Le Trouvère by Verdi. Thursday, The Traviata. Friday, Daughter of the Regiment by Donizetti. Saturday, Lucia of Lammermoor by Donizetti. Sunday, Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky.
