The referendum consists of just one question: “Do you want Thierry Baudet to remain party leader of Forum for Democracy?” The members may then choose between ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. The ballot boxes remain open for 24 hours and therefore close again on Friday at 6 p.m.
The referendum was launched after the prominent party members have been rolling around in public for two weeks. A large part of the prominent people wanted to discharge Baudet because of a too weak approach to Nazi messages in app groups of the youth party of FvD.
To top it all off, it came out that Baudet would have made anti-Semitic and racist statements at a meeting of candidate MPs. Baudet would then give up his place as party leader, but soon came back to that.
Former members
Smooth progress of the referendum will be quite a job for FvD. For example, several stakeholders say that the membership administration is definitely not in order. Several former members have already received an invitation to vote in the referendum. The party itself indicates that people who have canceled their membership can still participate in the referendum, if they have paid a contribution this year.
If the members choose Baudet, he may nominate a new board together with Olaf Ephraïm, a board member who is sympathetic to him. If Baudet loses, he leaves the party board and the rest of the board may nominate their successors.
