The cameras record the hands of the driver and the license plate, the face remains out of the picture. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the photos are so clear that a fine can be imposed, said a spokesman. The fined motorist can request the photos and file an appeal if necessary.

The cameras are already in use in Australia and many violations have already been found during tests in the Netherlands – in one day two cameras registered four hundred drivers with a phone in their hand.

The cameras work day and night, in all weather conditions and are easy to move.
